Embarrassing Songs And China's Myopia

Are there songs that you really like but would never listen to with anyone else around? Maybe some 80's hair metal songs, or sappy love songs? I will list of few songs that would be on my list here. First, one that I recently rediscovered after hearing it on an episode of "Cold Case" is Oasis with "Don't Look Back in Anger". Very sappy, which is redundant to say since it is Oasis. The second British invasion? Thank goodness the invasion was largely repelled in the 90's, but I still like this song dammit! Another would be "At Last" by Etta James. The song was made well before I was born, and is again a very slow sappy song that people love to play at weddings, but she does have a great voice. The third one, let's see...ah, here's one. "Pour Some Sugar on Me" by Def Leppard. Totally 80's hair band. Rock on! I haven't actually heard this one in a long time, but it remains to this day one of my very favorite 80's tunes. So can you name three? Don't be shy now, just because people may question your manhood or good taste because you revealed them...

I found this story interesting. So let me get this straight. Lots of Chinese people are upset because Japan wants to be a permanent UN Security Council member, because they violated the human rights of Chinese people 60 years ago and are not proclaiming it strongly enough to this day. Did I get that right? However, it's still OK that their own government arrested and kills non-violent dissenters from time to time? The Chinese government seems to be distancing themselves from the protest, but if it's a protest in China, doesn't it always have to be approved by the government? I wonder if they will be just as concerned if China invades Taiwan and kills tens of thousands or more of their people and/or starts "World War III", or rather, "most of the rest of the non-neutral world vs. China".

I like 'Cry me a River' by Justin Timberlake. Not a song I would roll to down the highway...

I'm not embarassed cause I'm listening to Foo Fighters now to cleanse my soul...

Your icon is back, eh Science Officer Vex? Thanks for sharing. I don't think you're any less of a man for liking *ahem*, Justin Timberlake. I love Foo Fighters!

Hmm, strange silence on this one. I wonder if Two Dogs has some music from the musical "Rent" on mp3, or maybe some Milli Vanilli? Maybe soundboyz has "Ice, Ice, Baby"? Surely someone else has musical skeletons in their closets!

Well, I didn't want to go there ,but I do like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler. The only reason why I even remember this song is because the video used to scare the crap out of me as a kid!!I don't know if you remember the video with the little alter boys with the glowing eyes!!!Crap....i'm getting a little nervous just thinking about it!!!

I remember that video as well. The dude that wrote that song was Jim Steinman and he wrote the entire first MeatLoaf album.

Having grown up in a hippie, dope-smoking family, there is nothing at all about me that is not just the super coolest in the world as far as music is concerned.

One of my musical claim to fame is never having heard Achy-Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus. Another is having toured for three years in a bar band. Damn, I still have flash-backs.

I do like the Commodores, does that count?

These Arms Of Mine by Otis Redding
If I Laugh by Cat Stevens
Crazy Love by Aaron Neville

The Commodores count I think... if I knew even one of their hits. Hello Kelly, and welcome to my blog! Cat Stevens! Heehee! What is that guy's name now? He's a little "tetched" as they used to say in the old days I think. He became a militant Muslim before it was even fashionable.

Cat Stevens is now Yusuf Islam and is on the no-fly list. As much as I hate to say it though, he did convert from almost drowning and followed thorugh with what he promised G_d.

Commodores: Sail On; Brick House; night Shift; etal.

What about Air Supply? Karen Carpenter? Righteous Brothers?

Erik Grow said...

Air Supply is a good one! Hahhah. We used to make jokes about "Flock of Seagulls" and their hit "I Ran". Not really my thing, but my manager kind of liked it, and we thought that was endlessly funny! So is Two Dogs and his G_d stuff. If you are typing about "G_d" aren't you allowed to say God since it's not taking his name in vain or something? Hmmm...

I do that simply out of respect for other religions that do not write the word out. It has absolutely nothing to do with my beliefs at all. I figure that I step on enough toes as it is without upsetting someone over something so easily done.

Life is a Lemon - Meat Loaf

Oh and nothing beats Ozzy Osbourne and Dweezil Zappa doing Stayin' Alive.

There are so many more...
